Bonn will continue to earn its title as the green city. ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability will host the first annual global forum on urban resiliency and adaptation to climate change, “Resilient Cities 2010″ from 28 to 30 May 2010 in Bonn, Germany, between the Carbon Expo in Cologne (26-28 May) and the UN Climate Talks in Bonn (31 May – 11 June 2010). The congress will bring together diverse actors: not only local governments, international organizations, development banks and NGOs but also researchers, university professors, urban planners, consultants, private finance institutions and private sector companies. On the table are questions like how cities will be impacted by climate change, and how to integrate adaptation into water, transport, energy and urban planning. Others are : how can we get citizens on-board and best utilize existing local knowledge? How can we manage uncertainty and what instruments are available to best deal with it? How ...Read More

Just across from the Sterntor castle in the Zentrum, Giacomo, Un café della cita has a compfy cosy European atmosphere. Like many restaurants, its menus is almost a dozen pages, and the first four only list drinks, with nearly 200 choices of coffee, hot cocoa and tea. You can have syrup shots, a dash of whiskey in your tea, or ice cream in your hot or cold chocolate. The regular hot shokolade is quite good, or consider the special seasonal white hot chocolate Ciocollata Sabastiana (3.25). They serve eggs all day if you are in mood for a late breakfast, tasty bruschetta , homemade soup (had a great carrot-corn that was a daily special) and the pasta comes in big dishes with varied sauces, from creative vegtable mixes to traditional Italian specialties. I prefer the seats downstairs, and appreciate that the menu is in both German ...Read More
Dashed in here on Rosemontag when I was starving and crowds were roving the streets so I appreciated the quick table and immediate access to the hot buffet. While there was lots to choose from: soup, rice, noodles, beef, fried chicken, sushi (below average) and fried pineapple (tasty), I should have gone straight to the other end of the buffet line, where you pick up pieces of raw meat, like lamb, chicken, beef, salmon, white fish, shrimp, prawns as well as noodles, mushrooms and other vegetables. Then you can choose from some six sauces like Hoisin, garlic, barbecue etc. Make sure to attach the clothespin that is in a dish on your table to the plate before giving it to the chef or they wont know where to bring the food. While the Mongolian barbecue was good, I go to a restaurant so that I don’t have to figure out ...Read More
There are things to do in Bonn. But I never seem to hear about them until they have already happened. Bonn has what I call "old-school" communication: news is passed along via a flier, street poster, postcard and good old word of mouth. Here and there a website might let you download a PDF. And there is that slight obstacle of not speaking German (yet!) Therefore, this site is dedicated to sharing about upcoming events in Bonn for English speakers, which we estimate to be over 12,000 people. We want to know what is going -- like concerts, movies, good restaurants and other fun stuff. Of course our goal is to tell you about it before it happens. So, please write in, let me know if you loved or hated a restaurant, know of a good show coming up, or want to join in blogging with me to keep English speaking Bonn ...Read More
